Today we switched classes for the first time and my class went to Miss Felton's room for Social Studies.

We are ready for our first full week of school! Just a reminder that students can bring a healthy snack to school. They can eat their snack everyday. Also, planners are $3.00. These are great tools for students to use to help them stay organized with their assignments. Each week a Home Reading Log will go home. The first one went home today. Students are to read 20 min. per school day/100 min. per week and then return their log on Monday. Parents need to initial and record minutes read. This counts as their reading homework. Math Minute 1 went home today for Math homework. In reading we are taking notes on the different types of genres. There will be a quiz over genres on Friday. Our Unit 1 Spelling test will be on Friday also. Students took their pretest home today so they can study their words this week. Tomorrow we have library. Have a great evening.

What a terrific day we had! I had so much fun meeting all of my 5th graders. Students are allowed to bring water bottles and a healthy snack to school. Student Planners are available for $3.00. Well, we made it to the "Big Event". Tomorrow is the day they have all been waiting for. We will leave for the YMCA at 9:15. We will return to school around 12:00. Pizza, chips, and desserts will be set up for lunch. Students need to bring their own drink; a non-glass container with a screw-on lid. Students also need to bring swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen. The dunk tank and inflatables will be going all afternoon. Thank you so much for those of you who signed up to help. It should be a super fun day!

We are down to the last week! No school on Monday. We will go to The Reef on Tuesday. The bus leaves at 9:00 and we will return at 2:00. All students need to have their swimsuit, lunch money or cold lunch, towel, and a change of clothes. They can wear their swimsuits to school with clothes over it or they can bring their suit to change into at The Reef. This should be a very fun and exciting day!

The awards assembly is tomorrow at 9:30. Please make sure your child has returned all permission slips and $20 for 6th grade day. The 40 Book Challenge Pizza lunch is tomorrow. 6th grade day is next Thursday. I will be sending home a schedule for parents who have volunteered to help. We are asking the students to sign up and bring either chips or a dessert. All students will bring their own drink. It must have a screw on lid and not be glass.

Just a reminder that Student-Led Conferences are this Wednesday. The students have worked so hard preparing for this day. I'm sure it will be a fun and enjoyable day for students and parents. I will not be there as my daughter is having her baby today. I apologize for not being there.

Thursday is our Aviation Field Trip to Laurel. The bus will leave promptly at 8:30. Students need to make sure they bring a disposable sack lunch.

Friday is our walk to Castle Rock. We will be eating lunch there, so students need to make sure there is money in their lunch account here at Eagle Cliffs.

Students are working so hard on their projects that are due soon. We had a lot of time in class today working on these projects. Their family crests are due tomorrow. After talking with the students today, it sounds like everyone had a great Easter break. We used the computer lab today to work on our Success Boards. This project is due on May 9th and the requirements went home last week. We took our Unit 28 spelling pretest today, so the words they need to study are written in their planner. There is no homework tonight. They will be running the 800 in P.E. tomorrow, so wear tennis shoes. Hat Day is Friday! Have a nice evening.

What an exciting morning! The counselor from Castle Rock visited our class this morning and everyone got registered for next Fall. Be sure and ask your student to show you their Castle Rock booklet. It has descriptions of all of the classes offered. Our math test has been rescheduled for Tuesday. Book orders went home on Wednesday and they are due on Friday, April 15. Remember that you can also order online. Homework Reading Logs went home today. We have not done these for quite awhile. Students need to read 2 hours for the week and return the log next Friday. Students also need to start collecting boxes, t.p. rolls, paper towel rolls, etc... for Science. They will be making their skateparks soon.

Ask your child about www.spellingcity.com. We have been using this site to practice our spelling words. This would be a great way for students to practice at home.

April is upon us and then it will be May, and things are getting really busy. So I wanted to provide you with some dates of upcoming events so you can mark your calendars. The counselor from Castle Rock will be visiting with the 6th graders next Friday, April 8th. They will enroll for their 7th grade classes. If your student is in Band/Orchestra now and does not want to continue next year they must bring in a note from parents stating this. If they do not have a note, they will enroll in band/orchestra. A letter went home from Castle Rock with your student today. We do not have the date yet for our Castle Rock tour.

We will be taking the NWEA tests on April 18 and 19. Our Poetry Cafe is scheduled for Wednesday, April 20 from 10:00-11:15. Your student will be able to leave with you when it is over.

Student-led Conferences are scheduled for Friday, May 13th.

We are planning 6th grade day! It will be held on Thursday, June 2nd. We will need parent volunteers to help with lunch and manning the inflatables. Please let me know if you are able to help that day. It is such a fun day and quite the tradition for 6th grade at Eagle Cliffs.

Happy Pi Day! We will be doing several Pi activities this week. So be sure and ask your child how we find Pi. Of course, we have to end our week of Pi with some Pie! If anyone is able to send a pie to school on Friday we would really appreciate it.

We have started our Book Clubs for reading. Ask your child about the book they are reading. We will have our Reading Sock Hop next Friday afternoon. A letter went home today about the Sock Hop. Progress reports went home today in Wednesday envelopes. This is the last week for students to read their pages to go to the Sock Hop. If your student has not read the 450 pages required, they received a notice today of how many pages they need to reach their goal. We don't have many items yet for our carnival basket. Our theme is "Family Movie Night". We need to collect all items by next Friday, March 4th. Our class will be taking the Montcas tests during the second week of March.

We had a great morning during our Dr. Seuss-A-Thon. The students had fun reading all morning and then we finished the morning with hot chocolate and cookies. Everyone is working hard to reach their 450 pages so they can attend the Sock Hop. So far our class has read 10,312 pages. Wow! Our wing goal is 50,000 pages. Several students have not turned in their logs and we only have 2 weeks left.

Happy Valentines Day! What a fun day we had in Room 17! In the spirit of Valentines Day let me just tell you how much I really enjoy working with your children each and everyday. They are so much fun and I love watching them learn.
Our Chapter 6 math test is tomorrow. They took their Math books home to study the Chapter test in the book. Tomorrow we will have a class study session before the test. They can ask for help on any of the problems they had trouble with.
For our half day on Wednesday we will be having our Reading Marathon. Students may wear sweats to school and we will be doing reading activities all morning. They may also bring a pillow if they wish. We will end the day with hot chocolate and cookies. School will be dismissed at 12:00.
No homework tonight, just study for the math test. The blue Sock Hop reading logs went home today. Have a great night.

Welcome back to school! After a wonderful Christmas break it is exciting to jump back into school. Today in Math we reviewed adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators and estimating sums and differences of fractions and mixed numbers. Winter has arrived! In math we are finding the Least Common Multiple of two numbers. Students are really seeing how important it is to know their multiplication facts. I hope everyone enjoyed the nice long weekend. It appears that winter is quickly approaching. Social Studies country projects are due next Monday, Nov. 1st. Students have been doing research in class, but may need time at home to put the poster together. They have a list of the requirements for this project. Spelling words went home today. They also have a math sheet for homework. This week is Red Ribbon week. Today was red, white, and blue day.

This is a great math computer program that challenges the students at their own individual pace. They will be on Success Maker 3-4 times a week. We took our Unit 7 Spelling pretest today. We went over the Math test today. All students have the option to correct up their test. They need to show their test to their parents, have the parents sign it and return it to school. Then on Monday they will do another test, just completing the problems they missed. Then both grades will be combined and averaged for their Math Test score. We took our Unit 4 Spelling Pretest today. Students are encouraged to practice the words they missed at home this week. In Health Mr. Bertsch gave out information for Elementary Cross Country program. The students can practice before school on scheduled dates and then the Cross Country Meet is on October 14. Book orders are due on Wednesday. A letter went home today from Mrs. Knutson about a program we are doing at school and also about our assembly tomorrow morning. Happy Constitution Day! We had a great discussion about our Constitution and what it means to us. We watched a couple of videos about it as well. What a busy day! Today we had our Character Education lesson with Mrs. Knutson. She read a great book to us and we all want to be "bucket fillers" and not "bucket dippers". Ask your child about this. Students had Art today and will have a quiz in Library tomorrow. Estimating sums and differences is what we learned in Math today. What a crazy weather day! A good reminder to always wear a coat if it is cool in the morning. Our week is off to a great start. We had our first Spelling pretest today and the students wrote the words they need to study in their planner. The test is on Friday. We had an assignment on Place Value in Math today. If that was not finished, they took it home for homework. They also had a math review sheet to take home. We still need more cereal boxes or other cardboard. What a wonderful first day of 6th grade! We had fun getting to know each other. We have 27 wonderful students in our class. Students received their planners today, and they cost $2.00. We will be starting a project and I have asked students to bring in a large cereal box if they have them at home. They were very happy to have P.E. on their first day. We have been busy busy!! 5th graders presented their planet projects today. They were fabulous! What a great job they all did on their projects. Poetry books were due today for all students and they look wonderful as well. Don't forget our Poetry Cafe is this Friday starting at 1:45. The students have been working so hard and are looking forward to this event. Next week on the 28th the counselor from Castle Rock will be here visiting with the 6th graders about their classes for next year. The Talent Show is on Friday, April 30th.

It sounds like everyone had a relaxing and fun Spring Break. It's hard to believe we are in the last quarter of school. Time is flying. 5th graders are working hard on their planet reports and 3D projects. A parent letter went home on Monday about this project. It is due on Wednesday, April 21st. Our Poetry Cafe will be on Friday, April 23 in the afternoon. All parents are invited to this fun activity. 6th Grade Student-led conferences are on Friday, May 14th. Our field trip to Dan Walt Gardens is scheduled for Friday, May 28th. Lots of activities going on. Have a great evening!

All students got their Math tests back today. If they would like to correct them up, they need to have a parent sign it and make their corrections on another sheet of paper. Several things went home today that did not make it home in Wednesday envelopes. There was the April lunch menu, notice of Spring Break next week, and a letter stating that we will be taking the NWEA tests in April. We will be going to the Alberta Bair on Tuesday, April 6th. If your child has not returned their permission slip, please send that back tomorrow.

Whew! What a week! We are all done testing. Students have worked very hard this week and we get to end our week with our Sock Hop Party! Our Sock Hop is tomorrow afternoon from 1:15 -2:45. Students are encouraged to wear 50's style clothing, bring their own drink and some treats to share.

Next week we will be celebrating Pi Day. A note went home with students today about our Pie Tasting celebration next Friday. If you are able to donate a pie that would be wonderful.

Class pictures are next week. 6th grade students do not have to pay for a class picture. They receive a complimentary one from Lifetouch.

Congratulations Class!! As a 5th and 6th grade wing we have surpassed our goal of 2000 reading points. The bonus is that everyone in our class made their goal so everyone is going to the Sock Hop on Friday. What a fun way to end our long week of testing. Everyone has worked so hard throughout these tests and we just have one left tomorrow morning.

Next week we will be celebrating "Pi Day" which is on March 14. We will discover what Pi is and then on Friday we will have a "Pie Tasting" celebration. We will be asking for donations of pies.

There is so much going on and time is flying by. Enjoy the sunshine and the longer days.

Next week we will be taking the Montcas test. It is very important that students do their best to be prepared for these tests. Students can bring healthy snacks to school and a water bottle if they want. They need to have a nutritious breakfast and get a good night's sleep. They may also bring gum to chew if they wish. Due to the testing next week I will not be giving any homework and we are taking a week off from the Reading Logs.

Our Reading Sock Hop is planned for next Friday if we reach our goals. More information will be going home on Monday.

Our class is piloting a new program in our school called Success Maker. This is a computerized math program that we are using for enrichment. It will place students at their level and then continue to challenge them with math activities. We will be on the computers at least 3-4 days a week. There is sound with this program, so if students could bring a pair of headphones to school that would help. Most 5th graders have them as it was on their supply list. Friday is International Stood Up Day! We will wear our pink t-shirts that day. Progress reports went home today in the Wednesday envelopes. Don't forget early dismissal on Friday. Next week we will be taking the Montcas tests.

We planned our Valentine Party today. Our class voted to have a Friendship Ice Cream Sundae Bar. Everyone is volunteering to bring something to contribute to the party. A list will go home tomorrow for parent approval. I will also be sending home a class list to help with completing valentines.

We had our spelling bee test today. The students will find out tomorrow who will be participating in the school spelling bee. I applaud each student who tried out for it. Tomorrow is "Hats for Haiti" day. Students can bring a quarter to donate to the people in Haiti, and wear their hat all day in school.

February is here and we are busy! Monday we had our Annual Sock Hop Kick-off! This is a fun way to celebrate reading. Our "wing" has a goal of 2000 pts. to earn the Sock Hop. Each student has an individual goal of 10 pts. They are excited and it is so much fun to celebrate reading together.

6th grade students have the opportunity to correct up their math test. Parents need to sign it and it needs to be returned by Friday.

Progress reports went home today. Book orders also went home and are due next Friday. Next Friday will be our Valentines Party. Our class voted to have a Friendship Ice Cream Sundae bar. Each student can sign up to bring an item to contribute. More information will follow. They will be making their Valentine Box at home and can bring these to school next week.

This Friday is another "Hats for Haiti" Day. What a fun and easy way to help the people of Haiti.

What a nice sunny afternoon! Progress reports went home today. This is the first report of the 3rd quarter, therefore there are not many grades recorded yet. 5th graders have started Chapter 6 in math on Geometry. Ask them to show you their "Geometry Aerobics"! 6th graders go sledding tomorrow morning. Remember to dress warm and to bring a change of dry clothes, just in case.

Friday afternoon is our Reading Marathon. Students can wear sweats to school and bring pillows.

We had a busy Monday with lots of new and exciting things going on. The Masterpiece fundraising information went home today. Students can sell from Jan. 25 - Feb. 10. I showed all of the students a spelling website to use for practicing their Spelling words. It is at www.eduplace.com/kids/. This site has various games and activities to practice their words. Check it out!

6th graders are going sledding this Thursday morning. They have their permission slips with all of the important information.

Friday we will be having our 2nd Annual Dr. Seuss Reading Marathon. Students can come to school dressed in sweats and may bring pillows and/or stuffed animals. We will be reading all afternoon. It is a fun time.

We had a great first day back at school! It sounds like everyone had a wonderful Christmas and lots of fun with family and friends. It feels good to be back in a routine and we got busy today. We took the Chapter 14 spelling pretest today. They took their words home and wrote in their planners the words they missed. 6th grade is starting Chapter 6 in math and 5th grade is starting Chapter 5. Both grades had spiral reviews for math homework tonight. We did our planners in class today. Consistency in using them is one of our goals. Parents, please take a look at their planners and see what we did today.

Band and Orchestra kids did a fantastic job at their concert today. You can really tell that they have been working hard. Great job kids! We also got a "sneak peek" at the General Music concert this afternoon, as we got to watch the dress rehearsal. Their concert is on Wednesday and the rest of our class will not be attending since we got to watch it today. This week is the Stocking Drive to collect toys for children in need. We ran out of time today so the students will get their spelling lists tomorrow. Friday is "Stood Up" day, so we will be wearing our pink t-shirts. Have a great evening and stay warm.

Another cold day spend inside! 6th graders took home their field trip permission slips today. On Tuesday, Dec. 22 we will be going to the Moss Mansion and then to Fuddruckers for lunch. The total cost is $5.00. Progress reports went home today as well as any missing work reports. We have been memorizing all of the stanzas to "Twas the Night Before Christmas". The kids are doing a fantastic job. Ask them to recite it for you. You will be amazed by how much they can say. Our goal is to have it all memorized before Christmas.
