Wednesday

We went over the Math test today. All students have the option to correct up their test. They need to show their test to their parents, have the parents sign it and return it to school. Then on Monday they will do another test, just completing the problems they missed. Then both grades will be combined and averaged for their Math Test score. I hope all students are completing their Reading Logs throughout the week. They need to read 120 minutes. These are due on Friday.
Wednesday envelopes went home today with information on our fundraiser. Progress reports are also included and show grades as they were this morning.

Monday

Our first math test is tomorrow. Students took their math book home tonight to study for their test. They are allowed to use their math journals while doing their test. Please check to see that your child is reading everyday and completing their reading logs. We took our Spelling pretest today over homophones. These are some hard words that they should study throughout the week.

Thursday

I hope everyone has enjoyed their afternoon off. It looks beautiful outside. No homework today unless they did not finish their math assignment this morning. Spelling test tomorrow and reading logs are due tomorrow. Have a nice night.

Wednesday

Wednesday envelopes went home today. There is a permission slip for a field trip to the Alberta Bair in October. Please sign and return to school. My class will be running the 800 meter run in P.E. on Wednesday, October 6th. Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes that day. Homework tonight is a Math Minute 4 sheet. I hope everyone is completing their Home Reading Logs. These are due back on Friday. Remember tomorrow all students are dismissed at 12:00. Have a wonderful night.

Tuesday

We saw an excellent assembly this morning on "Rachel's Challenge". It was very inspiring for us all. Saturday Live tickets will be sold the rest of the week. School will be dismissed at 12:00 on Thursday. Spelling homework went home today. Study those words for Friday's test.

Monday

We took our Unit 4 Spelling Pretest today. Students are encouraged to practice the words they missed at home this week. In Health Mr. Bertsch gave out information for Elementary Cross Country program. The students can practice before school on scheduled dates and then the Cross Country Meet is on October 14. Book orders are due on Wednesday. A letter went home today from Mrs. Knutson about a program we are doing at school and also about our assembly tomorrow morning. Homework today is a multiplication practice page. Thursday is early out for students. They will be dismissed at 12:00.

Constitution Day!

Happy Constitution Day! We had a great discussion about our Constitution and what it means to us. We watched a couple of videos about it as well. Book Orders went home on Wednesday and they are due next Wednesday. Home Reading Logs went home today. Students are to fill these out each day and bring back to school on Friday. This is their homework grade for Reading. Next Thursday is our early out day. Enjoy the weekend. If you blinked you might have missed Fall, because it is starting to feel like Winter.

Thursday

Homework today is a review of basic multiplication and division facts. Students are to try and do it as fast as they can. We are currently reading the book, The Great Gilly Hopkins. Students are also reading books of their choice for Independent Reading. Tomorrow is our Spelling Test over Unit 3 and we also have library tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow is Picture Day!! Wednesday

We worked with the atlases today in Social Studies finding absolute location of places using latitude and longitude. We practiced using the Distributive Property of Multiplication in math. Wednesday envelopes went home today. Book orders were inside. If you plan to order books, make checks payable to Scholastic Book Clubs and return by Sept. 22. Tomorrow we have Art and school pictures on Friday.

Tuesday

What a busy day! Today we had our Character Education lesson with Mrs. Knutson. She read a great book to us and we all want to be "bucket fillers" and not "bucket dippers". Ask your child about this. I hope they filled your bucket this afternoon! Today was the first day of Science with Mr. Wisler. Homework today is a spelling practice sheet. PTA is asking for 6th grade students to volunteer and help with Saturday Live. Information went home today about it. Have a wonderful evening!

Monday

What a wonderful weekend we had. It sounds like everyone had fun outside and enjoyed the great weather. In Math we studied Order of Operations. If they did not finish their assignment in class, they took it home to finish it. They had a math review sheet for homework. We started studying the 5 Themes of Geography in Social Studies. They will go to Science tomorrow with Mr. Wisler. We finished the day with Health class. Remember that pictures are this Friday.

It's Friday!

Wow, these weeks go by fast! Today we had our Spelling Test over Unit 2. In math we learned how to estimate products and quotients. Library was this afternoon. Next week we have pictures taken on the 17th. Have a great weekend with your family!

Thursday

Students had Art today and will have a quiz in Library tomorrow. Estimating sums and differences is what we learned in Math today. Ask your child how to use front-end estimation and front-end with adjusting estimation. Tomorrow is the Spelling Test. Students are working hard at the 40 Book Challenge. If you don't know what this is, ask them about it. We are all challenged to read 40 books this year, including Mrs. Alwood. Have a wonderful evening!

End of Testing

We are done with Fall NWEA testing! Hooray! There is no homework tonight. We put together our 6th grade portfolios today. Students will be working on these throughout the year. They will show these to parents at their Student-Led Conference in May. Healthy Habit slips went home in the Wednesday envelopes today. It was so nice visiting with parents last night. Long Day!

The students worked so hard today. We started the NWEA tests this morning. We completed the Language and Reading tests and tomorrow we will take the Math test. No homework today. I hope to see everyone at Open House tonight.

It's Friday

Today was the last day to work on our "All About Me" projects. Those students who did not finish can work on it over the weekend and hand in on Tuesday. Next week 6th graders will be taking the NWEA tests on Reading, Language, and Math. No school on Monday. Enjoy your three day weekend!

Wednesday

Students are continuing to work on their "All About Me" projects. They are coming along nicely and parents will get to see them at Open House next week. We continued working with exponents in math today. A math puzzle went home for homework. Wednesday envelopes went home also. There was a lot of information in them today. Today we had music and P.E.
